Is Page Rank Important?

October 22, 2010

Being in SEO for as long as I have – I have been approached for years about a client wanting to improve there page rank as much as possible.  Some people have no idea what it even means, but they still try to increase the page rank.  WHY!?

A quick background – Page Rank was a much needed factor for many when it came to search engine optimization.  Page Rank is how often Google spiders your pages.  The higher the Page Rank the more often they read over the site.  Page Rank used to play a huge factor but over the years algorithms have changed making it not as important.  Lately, the only way you really will get ahead is to build a natural campaign for your business.  A natural campaign can only be built with time and heavy marketing efforts.

Of course high PR links are great – but that alone will not get you the rankings you need to build conversions and branding for your business.

Referenced from Google and a posting by Brick Marketing Blog:
“Q: My site’s PageRank has gone up / gone down / not changed in months!
A: Don’t worry. In fact, don’t bother thinking about it. We only update the PageRank displayed in Google Toolbar a few times a year; this is our respectful hint for you to worry less about PageRank, which is just one of over 200 signals that can affect how your site is crawled, indexed and ranked. PageRank is an easy metric to focus on, but just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it’s useful for you as a site owner. If you’re looking for metrics, we’d encourage you to check out Analytics, think about conversion rates, ROI (return on investment), relevancy, or other metrics that actually correlate to meaningful gains for your website or business.”
