What are Backlinks?
October 15, 2010
If you have ever spoken with someone about SEO, you have probably heard them use the term backlinks. So, what exactly are these mysterious things??? Backlinks, or inbound links, are links that are placed on websites (other than your own) that link back to your site. There are numerous ways to obtain these links including article submissions, paid links, and reciprocal link exchanges.
Article submissions are a great way to build links. Typically a content writer will create articles based on the specific keywords that you have chosen to go after. These articles will then be submitted to directories and link will be placed inside the content with anchor text.
Directories and Social bookmarking are another way to build links. See our postings all about Directories.
Paid Links are another way to build links. The name pretty much explains itself. Many sites will offer you the opportunity to purchase links.
Reciprocal link exchanges are a great way to build backlinks. There are several ways to go about forming reciprocal link relationships. You can contact other websites directly, but there are usually directories full of people who are seeking a link exchange.
While build backlinks can be a relatively simple task, you want to be sure to seek quality links vs. quantity. Linking to a long-time established site like Nike.com is much more valuable than linking to BargainBucket.com. These practices, among others, can help you to greatly improve your rankings. Before you know it, you will be playing with the big dogs.
